So many great businesses and individuals showed their pride in their community this past weekend by leaving their lights on. You deserve our thanks. The photos below were taken by our Pro-Syracuse Committee Chair Brian Byrnes.

Turn on the lights near your exterior windows this weekend and lets LIGHT UP SYRACUSE! March 27th-29thFrom: Believe in Syracuse, Pro-Syracuse Committee Contact: Brian R. Byrnes, P.E. Believe in Syracuse Board Director, Pro-Syracuse Committee Chair Email: [email protected] “Light Up Syracuse” - NCAA Basketball East Regional Weekend, March 27th -29th 2015 Our organization is writing in regards to an event proposed by our members called “Light Up Syracuse.” Light Up Syracuse is loosely modeled after an event in Pittsburgh called “Light Up Pittsburgh.” The idea is to turn on downtown lights all weekend to demonstrate that Syracuse is energized and open for business! In Pittsburgh, all businesses were asked to leave every light on in downtown to kick off their Holiday Season. Their event was on Friday and Saturday nights and had a fireworks component. In Syracuse the plan would be slightly modified to center around the NCAA Basketball East Regional weekend, March 27th -29th, requesting that all the business, building and apartment lights be turned on in downtown Syracuse Friday, Saturday and Sunday night. During the NCAA Regionals weekend in Syracuse, the city will play host to thousands of fans of the four visiting colleges. Many, if not most, will be very wealthy donors and business owners who support these colleges. The idea is to use this event to highlight how vibrant our great city is and pitch Syracuse as an excellent place to live and do business! Light Up Syracuse would encourage locals that love our city to come downtown to see all the lights lit up for the first time in a generation, take pictures, and tell our visitors how great Syracuse and Central New York truly is. The greater Syracuse area has been identified as one of the lowest cost of living and cost of home ownership cities in America. With excellent local colleges and universities, nanotechnology development, work force with skills diversity, resident college education rates above the national average and ten year tax free incentives of Start UP NY; Syracuse is prime for new business and growth! In addition, the plan would include seeing every visitor as a potential investor or future resident. This would be done by providing hotels with information about why Syracuse is a great place to live or retire and how to get a business started in Syracuse in each hotel room. These documents would point out the all the important business and cost advantages noted above as well as, entertainment events like the Taste of Syracuse, and The Great New York State fair and our proximity to recreation including skiing, hiking, Finger Lakes Wine Trails and The Adirondacks. Light Up Syracuse would be an event designed to galvanize enthusiasm for the entire region, and specifically, our heart, Downtown Syracuse. It shouts, “WE ARE ENERGIZED and OPEN FOR BUSINESS!” With Light Up Syracuse an entire generation of Central New Yorkers will see all of downtown Syracuse completely lit up for the first time. This event is as much about dazzling of our own community and instilling civic pride as it is directed towards potential investors. Please view the video prepared by a BIS member: www.youtube.com/watch?v=pRMLbK3HN8Y Thank you in advance for your coverage and support! It is simple and effective turn the lights on! Let’s Light Up Syracuse! Tell your friends and your favorite downtown business they should Light Up Syracuse!
This week, Believe in Syracuse is holding four separate committee meetings. One for each of our newly launched groups that will serve on the front lines of our fight for Syracuse. Below you'll find more info about each committee and details about when they will meet:
Last week we held our 2015 Committee Kickoff event. Over 60 of you showed up, learned about our organization and made a statement that you're invested in Syracuse. Thank you for supporting our organization and our mission. Next week the newly launched committees of Believe in Syracuse will be meeting. The people who make up the committees will be the ones setting up our events, recruiting volunteers, promoting the positive aspects of CNY and raising funds and awareness of our organization. We're a grassroots organization and that means we're powered by people like you. For too long Syracuse lost many talented people. Syracuse lost a lot in its economy. Syracuse city schools declined. Our neighborhoods lost part of what makes them great. Help us take back what we lost. For just $25 become a member of Believe in Syracuse today to support our mission and take advantage of some fantastic networking benefits.Click here, learn more and then signup today. Donating is a great way to support our mission and network with our members. What also does those things is joining a committee and helping us organize. That's why next week we're holding the following committee meetings and we are inviting YOU to attend!
Not sure what the committees are about or which one you want to be part of? Click here to read more about each committee and then let us know if there's one you're most passionate about. When I showed up for the committee kickoff event on Wednesday, I really didn't know how many people to expect. I was telling people 40 people might come, hoping to maybe get 50. However when 60+ of you showed up, you showed us that Believe in Syracuse means something to you. It's not just a slogan or a t-shirt to wear. You really do believe in Syracuse and know that good things are possible here. Let's get to work and make the change we wish to see in our community. John DeSantis
