By John DeSantis "Your business today keeps us open another week. Thank you." - Lauren (co-owner of Beer Belly Deli) At Monday's event at Beer Belly Deli we accomplished what we set out to do: help support a small locally owned business and give folks a chance to come together, meet new people and make connections. Beer Belly Deli has been open a little over a year. Some of you may know it is one of my favorite places to eat in Syracuse. Others may have heard of it as the place that is considering closing their doors for good because of the major street construction in front of their establishment. Although the construction is ongoing and one good day of business will not save beer belly - we are so happy that we were able to do our part to help Beer Belly in this difficult time for them. The event was scheduled for 5:30 and people started to trickle in around then. Over the next hour the crowd grew and the excitement continued to build. At 6:30, I gave a 5 minute speech on the back patio. I spoke about how glad I was that we were supporting Beer Belly, how great it has been that so many people came out to say that they Believe in Syracuse. I spoke about how Believe in Syracuse exists to promote living in Syracuse and to encourage community engagement. We also had the owner of Syracuse Food Tours speak briefly about how she Believes in Syracuse and promotes the great places to eat on our city. Lauren, co-owner of beer belly spoke briefly to say thank you to everyone who came and to let us know that because of our business on Monday, they will be able to stay open another week. Let's keep supporting local businesses like Beer Belly. Let's keep involved in our community. Let's not let people get away with thinking that Syracuse is just a place with a lot of snow and good basketball. We are a community on the rise. When we say Syracuse is a city on the rise, we mean it and we have the facts to back it up. Below is a list of articles written about the incredible momentum we have as a community. Syracuse has reached a turning point. Listed below are the titles of the articles. Click on them below to read the full stories. In that short time frame, we have accomplished so much. Our organization exists to accomplish two goals:
Through media outlets, we have been able to make a measurable impact on people's perception of our city. The positive feedback we have received via social media and otherwise has validated for us how important our work is. It's also translated into real life action helping make Syracuse even better.
We're incredibly excited about our successes so far but this movement will only go as far as you take it. We're a grassroots campaign. This is not about any one of us and it's certainly not about me. It's about you and the change you'd like to see. Click Here and sign up to volunteer and we'll keep you in the loop about events we host in the future. Thanks! John By John DeSantis Hey everyone. I can't tell you how excited I am for the Believe in Syracuse July Networking Night. It's going to be good. I have some breaking news relating to the format of the event this Thursday that will make it even more fun and encourage everyone to meet new people. Five random people at the event will hold a chip that is worth one free drink at the bar. However - those five people won't be cashing in any drink chips. Your mission if you choose to accept it is to find one or more of these 5 random people to obtain their drink chip. Here's the catch - before anyone can tell you if they have a chip or not, you have to find out what they do for a living, where they are from, what their favorite aspect of Syracuse is, and share the same about yourself with them. Only after sharing these things with each other can you tell the other if you have a drink chip and if you found one of the select individuals, they will give you the chip! Our hope is that this will encourage everyone in attendance to get out of their usual groups, not be shy, and meet new people. We hope that folks will make connections that will be mutually beneficial. Even if you aren't lucky enough to get a free drink chip, you'll be able to enjoy great company, conversation, free pizza and hors d'oeuvres plus discounted drinks specials all night. Are you in? Click Here and then RSVP. What: Believe in Syracuse's July Networking Night
