This event has been all over the news. It's been featured on TWC News (Channel 10), NewsHouse, the Daily Orange, and today Channel 9 is previewing the event. They have really validated that this progress we keep talking about on Westcott Street is not just something we talk about. It's real.
It's visible. Just like the change at the corner of Westcott and Genesee, where a symbol of our regions decline was at a gateway to the neighborhood and a high traffic intersection. Now it looks beautiful. It's visible like the Save the Rain improvements to Westcott Street itself. It also includes things you can't see like the green infrastructure that helps boost our local environment or the new-found job security of the employees at Beer Belly.
This is our time Syracuse. I see the decline that Syracuse went through during the 80's and 90's as an opportunity for us to capitalize on today. When homes were boarded up and factories closed down, although it caused much pain and distress, today those empty buildings allow us to shape our own community. That's what is happening. All across CNY, private developers, non-profits, government and ordinary people like you and me who organize on a grassroots level are choosing our own destiny and re-making Syracuse stronger than it was before.
If you'll stand with us, there's nothing we can't do together as a community. That's why I hope you can make it tonight, so together we can keep Syracuse moving forward.
