1) Neighbors supporting Neighbors
The folks over on Elk Street know all of their neighbors and have their very own community clean up regimen. Each neighbor takes care of their own home and together some of the neighbors ensure the vacant lot is cleaned. On the 200 block of Elk these street, neighbors worked to get speed bumps for the safety of their kids.
On Furman and Midland- Every Monday at approximately 8:00am a gentleman cleans up around that area. The neighbors there also watch out for each other’s homes.
Warner Street/Webster Arlene one of our team Captains has a BBQ Birthday party twice a year for herself and husband, they give winter support to their neighbors particularly the elderly, and Arlene also has a community garden
Kirk Ave/Midland Faith By Love Family Worship Church- has a Community Jam Fest at Kirk Park and it is one of the events the people look forward to
2) Beautiful Parks
Jubilee Park- Southwest Showcase Sundays for the last 15 years and the Annual Juneteenth event, Kirk Park-Jazz in the city with the Blacklights, Meachem Field- Valley Field Days, Ice skating rink, Wilson Park- has a Basketball Tournament each year, Onondaga Creek-is known for its walking trail and a new edition of bike lanes that have been added for the cycle lovers and hiking, Elmwood Park-A Fishing for Trout Youth initiative, Folks can even enjoy the Community Garden on Bellevue and Midland, Mckinley Park- has Free swimming lessons for all youth bathing suits, Wilson Park
3) Community Groups Making a Difference
There’s a new Price Rite Market coming to town right on the Southside thanks to the National Action Network Syracuse Chapter leadership and members, Jubilee Homes and those who donated their expertise in kind coming together to make it all happen. This initiative creates employment opportunity, convenience and quality food to its community.
