Last Saturday I went a little out of my comfort zone to participate in a Believe in Syracuse event for a GREAT cause, Group Gardening at the Sarah House. When I heard about this event, I was a little nervous, I don't have much of a "green thumb" and I had absolutely no experience in the gardening department.
When I approached the Sarah House on Roberts Ave I will admit I was a little nervous and didn't know what to expect. I couldn't tell apart a weed from any sort of plant and had no idea how to mulch! I was greeted by Julie Foy, a volunteer who helped organize the event. She led me over to a pile of gardening gloves and tools and we got to work!
Throughout the morning, a group of volunteers and myself took on the gardens of the Sarah House, digging, weeding and mulching. This event allowed me to step outside my comfort zone, trying something new and contributing to a great cause while doing so. It was a great experience meeting new people, and learning a few new things!
