The 1st Annual Reading is Fun Block Party! The South Side Neighborhood Team and their Neighborhood Beautification Campaign! The Northside Neighborhood Team and their 4th of July Children's Parade! This past week I spent some time at the newly restored Hotel Syracuse. Since I have been planning our event there I have seen many photos of the progress of the restoration but when I arrived on Wednesday and saw all the completed work, I was truly blown away by the beauty and the history being made. Click here to check out some photos I took and click here for a video I took of the first floor. In case you haven't heard, the hotel staff have allowed us to continue to sell tickets and now the event is almost sold out! We are offering individual tickets to the Believe in Syracuse Progress Gala at Hotel Syracuse for $100 and $190 for a party of two. By buying a ticket you'll be supporting our mission in the community. You'll also get dinner, dessert, live music, and you'll hear from our keynote speaker Sean Kirst! Click here for a Syracuse.com article about how he is speaking at our event! Also we're excited to let you in on a sponsorship offer for companies or groups. For just $500 we'll put your logo on a printed sign at the event, thank you in the printed event program, give your organization a plug on social media and you get two tickets to attend the gala. We are sending our sign and program designs off to the printer on the 11th so make sure you act quick on this offer! Click here and reserve your sponsorship or table of 10. Lastly, we are excited to announce that on Monday July 11th from 6-8pm we're hosting Syracuse Rising: Eastside at Dolce Vita on Genesee Street. There are just 5 days left until the deadline on Monday to get tickets to our gala at the historic Hotel Syracuse. In recognition of the 5 days left mark, we thought we'd give you 5 reasons why you won't want to miss out on this historic event. To get your tickets today, click here. 1. A Historic Moment: The restoration of Hotel Syracuse is an occasion for Central New York that can not be overstated. Since the 1920's, this building was home to the beating heart of Syracuse. The weddings, the high school proms, the St. Patrick's Day events, the entertainment, the celebrity appearances... there is so much history and so many memories in that building. When it closed 10 years ago, it was as if the heart of a community was crushed. Now that it has come back to life, there is so much to celebrate. 2. A Beautiful Venue: The event will take place on the first floor. You'll get to see the lobby, the beautifully restored mural above the old reception desk and dinner will take place inside the Persian Terrace (see below via CNY Central) which will be set up as it would be for a wedding. 3. Program Celebrating Local Progress: We are incredibly excited for our Keynote Speaker Sean Kirst. Sean is a writer, author and columnist who knows the history of the Hotel Syracuse like no one else and is a phenomenal story teller. We are also very excited to hear from the hotel's developer Ed Riley and the MC for the event will be Farah Jadran, NewsChannel 9 Reporter. We'll celebrate the hotel and all the progress that is happening in our community, making Syracuse a city on the rise. 4. Network with Impressive people: We are incredibly excited about who will be in the room. There will be business owners, local personalities and if you attend the event you'll have a chance to mingle with everyone. For example, some of the tables of 10 that have been sold were bought by CenterState CEO, Wegmans, AP Professionals, Peppino's and Darco Manufacturing. There will be impressive folks from all walks of life, a big reason to buy a ticket, two tickets or a table of 10 before Monday's deadline. 5. Support Syracuse: When you buy a ticket or a table for the Progress Gala, all proceeds will go toward advancing the mission of Believe in Syracuse. It will help us buy trash bags, and gardening tools for neighborhood beautification projects. It will help fund our Northside and South Side Neighborhood teams that serve neighborhoods in need. It will allow us to stick around and organize volunteers for community service projects for years to come. Believe in Syracuse is all about converting local pride into meaningful progress and programs that improve quality of life for residents in the Greater Syracuse Area. Please click here, buy your ticket or a table and give back to our community. John DeSantis

P.S. - This Monday June 13th we're holding a free and open to the public event called Syracuse Rising: Armory Square. It will be from 6-8PM at Clinton St. Pub. Join us in one of CNY's most vibrant neighborhoods, chat with us about the Progress Gala and our Neighborhood Olympics planned for this year! Click here and then RSVP The mission of Believe in Syracuse is to promote positive perceptions and improve the quality of life in the Greater Syracuse Area. By talking about the positive aspects of Syracuse we have built ourselves a megaphone to organize volunteers and resources to make Syracuse a better place. Our organization converts local pride into meaningful action. In order to inspire community involvement we talk about all that we have on our side here in Central New York. We have so much we can build off of to make Syracuse a better place.
Over the last 30 or so years, Syracuse lost a lot of jobs, particularly large employers and manufacturing. Over the past 5+ years the Syracuse economy has been turning a corner, evolving and beginning to thrive:
How we make Syracuse stronger: Syracuse isn't all sunshine and flowers. There are aspects of our city that need improvement. That improvement won't happen by ignoring our problems or simply bragging about how great Syracuse is. Together we roll up our sleeves and make a meaningful difference in this community we love. All the funds we raise through our membership drive and our upcoming Progress Gala at the historic Hotel Syracuse help support our mission and our programs. Three programs we organize to make Syracuse stronger are the Syracuse Neighborhood Olympics, our Community Organizing Program and our Community Service Committee.
It's not about me. It's not about our board members. It's about you. It's about the power of all of us working together. We're a grassroots organization and your support is how I know we'll continue to make a huge impact in the Syracuse community for years to come. Thank you so much for all you've done for our organization, for our mission and most of all thank you for all you do for Syracuse. Just three weeks ago, on Saturday May 7th the Believe in Syracuse Southside Team met at the Southside Innovation Center to clean up the abandoned parking lot on the corner of S. Salina and Brighton and the 3 blocks of Brighton Avenue between S. Salina and Midland. The neighbors stepped outside their doors to learn more about Believe in Syracuse Southside Team and our beautification initiative. We learned so much from the neighbors and found that a lot of the trash, litter and debris doesn’t come from them but people who live elsewhere. For example drivers who pass through the block of Brighton Ave throw their garbage out of the window of their cars. One neighbor said “I used to pick it up but you get tired of picking up other peoples’ mess”, “they don’t even live here”. The cleanup crew had an opportunity to speak with a couple of the members from the Masonic Lodge on Brighton about the initiative and discussed possible collaborative work efforts on the project. How exciting is that. We are all about doing it TOGETHER… Meeting the neighbors and the children in the community joining us was a great indicator that the community members are open to service and building in their own neighborhoods. This Beautification initiative is a part of the Believe in Syracuse Community Organizing Program. Our team is a coalition of Southside residents, volunteers and members of Believe in Syracuse from the Greater Syracuse area. We are certainly open to cleaning other parts of the city so please come join us at our next meeting to hear more of what who we are and what we do. Consistency is key to success and we will keep this going as long as WE have YOU to be a part of the WE. Together let’s Make a Difference!
Our next Southside Team meeting will be held on Monday May 23rd 6:00pm at the South Side Innovation Center on South Salina. Please join us! --- Lekia Hill South Side Neighborhood Team Believe in Syracuse [email protected] |
