Westcott Neighborhood Bulb Project - City Wide
We can all do our part in making Syracuse a nicer city to live in.
If you don’t have the time or energy to plant a bag of bulbs reach out to a few friends and have a “bulb planting party” in the fall. If your house or block or neighborhood is already filled with blooming flowers in the spring reach out through a neighborhood organization, library, school, community organization .... and offer to plant some bulbs in another part of the city.
We could all use a boost in the spring after our long winters and what is better than seeing some blooming tulips or daffodils to bring a smile.
Problems in the city can seem so overwhelming. While planting some flowers is a small step it is something each of us can do.
If you aren’t able to plant bulbs but want to support the project offer to buy a bag or two for a community organization that has the people resources and a plan but not financial resources.
Go to our Facebook page www.facebook.com/WestcottBulbProject to see what people in Syracuse are doing.
In 2003 The Westcott NeighborhoodBulb Project, www.bulbproject.orgorganized its first bulb give away atWestcott Community Center for residents on the East side of Syracuse. In 2010 we went city wide and started selling bulbs in bulk quantities. Since the project started we assisted individuals and community organization in planting 142,000 perennial bulbs in the city of Syracuse.
Our goals are neighborhood beautification and building community. There are 3 requirements to participate in the project:
First - Live in the city of Syracuse.
Second - Be willing to plant(public or private property) the bulbswhere they can be seen from the street for all to enjoy. They are not intended for private back yards.
Third - Send in a brief report on your planting project. To see what people did in the past go towww.bulbproject.org and click on WPB History. We also have a Facebook page, www.facebook.com/WestcottBulbProject We love it when folks take photos we can share.
We sell 3 types of bulbs in bags of 50 for $11.00 per bag. The bulbs will be available late Sept.
